Ninja's Viral Glass Air Fryer Gets a Major Update, and I Got a Sneak Peek

We got a first look at Ninja's upgraded glass air fryer, the Crispi Pro.

SharkNinja unveiled the Ninja Crispi Pro Countertop Glass Air Fryer, building on the success of its initial glass air fryer — our top air fryer pick overall — introduced last year. The new model, available on Ninja’s website for $280, offers larger cooking vessels and a more modular design to encourage making not just snacks but full meals.

Before launch, CNET was offered a sneak peek of the souped-up Crispi air fryer at the brand’s headquarters in Needham, MA.

    Here’s our initial take.

Crispi Pro is more modular but with a bigger footprint

The freestanding base with locked-in overhead cooking element means this air fryer will live on your countertop and not in a drawer.

The new model features a larger 6-quart XL glass container — large enough to cook a whole chicken or meals for up to 10 people — and a low and wide 2.5-quart casserole-style dish (pictured below), great for browning the top of holiday sides like sweet potatoes or mac and cheese. It also works with the existing 2.5-quart and 4-quart glass containers from the original Crispi system.

The smartly designed glass cooking chambers double as serving platters and have tight-fitting lids that make it easy to store extra food for later.

The Crispi air fryer system allows you to serve food in the same vessel you cooked it in.

Unlike its more compact predecessor, the Crispi Pro features a more bulky and permanent base that cooking vessels slide into so it won’t be as easy to stash in a large drawer or cupboard as the original version. The modular base allows for cooking chambers to sit at different heights via a flip-down shelf.

    New modes for precision cooking

The Pro features a digital interface with two new cooking modes.

Two more cooking functions have been added to the original design. The Crispi Pro offers six cooking modes: air fry, bake, roast, dehydrate, max crisp and a gentle re-crisp.

According to the company, the appliance includes precision digital temperature controls and can cook frozen food to crispy perfection in less than 15 minutes.

    Nontoxic and easy to clean

Unlike the original Crispi, the updated version features a permanent standing base that cooking chambers slide into at adjustable heights.

Glass air fryers present a welcome nontoxic alternative to traditional plastic air fryers. The Crispi Pro’s containers are BPA-free and leak-resistant, allowing users to prepare, cook, serve, store and reheat food in the same dish.

In our experience, glass cooking chambers also make cleanup easier. You can pop the vessels into the dishwasher for a deep clean that is not as easily accomplished with nonstick baskets.

Building on the success of the original Crispi

The Ninja Crispi Pro is available for $280 from the brand’s website.

“The original Ninja Crispi generated over 715 million impressions across social media since launch,” said Kelly Megel, vice president of Ninja Marketing, citing growing consumer demand for healthier cooking solutions.

The Crispi Pro comes in four colors — cyberspace, rose quartz, bone and ash gray — and features what the company describes as a sleek design meant to remain on countertops rather than be stored away.

The Crispi Pro is available for $280 on NinjaKitchen.com
