After working together on the ghost story Presence, Neon has acquired the latest film from Steven Soderbergh, The Christophers. The feature made its premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The script comes from Men in Black writer Ed Solomon and stars Michaela Coel and Ian McKellen, along with Jessica Gunning and James Corden. The Christophers sees the estranged relatives (Gunning, Corden) of a famous artist (McKellen) enlist the help of a struggling artist (Coel) to steal and complete the artist’s unfinished works.

Reads The Hollywood Reporter’s review of the film: “Throughout his prolific 40-year career, Soderbergh has proven himself a great director of actors, evident here in every moment McKellen or Coel are onscreen, and doubly so when they share scenes.”

Neon will release the film theatrically in the U.S. in 2026 and will also represent the international sales rights.

Produced and financed by Department M, The Christophers was produced by Department M’s Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer, along with Jim Parks and Iain A. Canning. Corey Bayes serves as executive producer.

Neon recently acquired the U.S. rights to another TIFF title, Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert.

The Christophers deal was negotiated by CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.
