11 Democratic Officials Arrested Trying to Access ICE Detention Cells

Federal officers arrested 11 officials in New York on Thursday, after they tried to access cells used by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to detain migrants. Brad Lander, the city comptroller, and Jumaane D. Williams, the public advocate, were among those arrested.

“Make a hole. Make a hole.” “1, 2, 3.” “If you impede, you’ll be under arrest. Back up.” “I’m here because ICE should be out of New York.” “You’re in violation of the law.” “I am here to ensure that we protect all our fellow constituents.” “We shall not be moved. We shall not be moved. We shall not be moved. We shall not be moved.” “We’re here, and we’re not going anywhere. And if they throw us out, we’ll come back.” “One.” “We are the people.” “Two.” “A little bit louder.” “Three.” “You agreed to be placed under arrest.” “We are the people.” “Two.” “A little bit louder.” “We want justice for our people.”
