Manchester City have agreed to buy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for about £30m (€35m). The move paves the way for Ederson to move to Fenerbahce for £12.1m (€14m).

Donnarumma has been deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique at PSG, who signed Lucas Chevalier last month to be first choice at the European champions.

The Italy keeper can expect to be Guardiola’s No 1 despite City having signed James Trafford from Burnley for £27m in July. Trafford had dislodged Ederson but was culpable for Tottenham’s second goal in their recent 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium and has failed to convince the manager of his reliability.

Donnarumma is City’s fifth major acquisition of the window, following the arrivals of Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Aït-Nouri.

Ederson, 32, has been City’s No 1 since signing for £34.9m from Benfica in June 2017, He has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, a Champions League, a Uefa Super Cup and a Club World Cup. The 32-year-old was a key member of City’s 2022-23 treble triumph.

Manuel Akanji has joined Inter from City on a season‑long loan for a €2m loan fee, with a €15m buy option for the 30-year-old Swiss defender.

Kalvin Phillips, who underwent surgery on an achilles in late May, was not able to secure a move before the window closed. The 29-year-old midfielder, who signed for £45m in summer 2022, has made only 16 Premier League appearances for City. He was loaned to Ipswich for all of last season.
