Before a roundtable of European leaders in Washington, President Trump was overheard on an open microphone talking to President Emmanuel Macron of France about discussions with the Russian president on the war in Ukraine.
[Trump to Macron]: “A little tan, you’re good? You look great.” [Macron]: “Thank you for working hard.” [inaudible] [Trump]: “It’s, uh, I can call Putin and [inaudible]” [Trump]: “… and I think, we can set up a trilat, you know, so …” [Macron]: “And where do you want to do it?” [Trump]: “I think he wants to make a deal. I think he wants to make a deal for me. Do you understand that? As crazy as it sounds. Just sit down.” Sit down, everybody.
