Sony’s horror sequel “28 Years Later” opened atop the U.K. and Ireland box office, scaring up £4.7 million ($6.4 million) on debut, according to Comscore.

The Danny Boyle-directed follow-up has a cast led by Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes.

Universal’s “How To Train Your Dragon” held firm in second place, soaring to $3.8 million in its second weekend for a cumulative total of $17.1 million. Disney’s “Elio” debued in third place, collecting $1.3 million over its first weekend. Meanwhile, the studio’s “Lilo & Stitch” continued its solid run, taking $908,062 in its fifth weekend to push its total to $46.4 million.

Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” followed in fifth position with $811,385, lifting its overall gross to $33.5 million after five weeks on release.

Black Bear’s “The Salt Path” took sixth with $362,939, reaching a cume of $9.2 million. Bollywood release “Sitaare Zameen Par” from AA Films U.K. debuted in seventh with $306,576, ahead of Lionsgate U.K.’s “From The World of John Wick: Ballerina,” which added $263,134 in its third frame for a $4.2 million total.

Sony’s “Karate Kid: Legends” was in ninth place with $239,827, pushing its four-week haul to $7 million. Rounding out the top ten, Universal’s “The Ballad Of Wallis Island” earned $178,765, bringing its cumulative earnings to $1.6 million.

Among upcoming releases, Warner Bros. unleashes one of the summer’s biggest titles on Wednesday with “F1,” directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt. Set against the high-octane world of Formula One racing, the film rolls out across more than 300 locations.

Universal counters on Friday with the release of sequel “M3GAN 2.0.” Also opening wide is Paramount’s 30th anniversary 4K reissue of Amy Heckerling’s teen classic “Clueless,” which returns to more than 300 cinemas with Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz once again navigating high school hallways in style.

Releases this week also include Verve Pictures’ comedy “Chicken Town,” and “From Hilde, With Love,” a German-language wartime romance distributed by Picturehouse Entertainment.

Documentary “The Line We Crossed,” from Page75 Productions, focuses on civil resistance in the U.K., while “Words Of War,” released via Signature Entertainment, brings together Maxine Peake, Jason Isaacs and Ciarán Hinds for a dramatized version of journalist Anna Politkovskaya’s crusade, fighting for an independent voice in Putin’s Russia.

Other releases include boxing film “Fighters” (Big Picture Film Club), surfing documentary “The Road To Patagonia” (Kaleidoscope Entertainment), Amy Hardie’s relationships documentary “Love & Trouble” (Dartmouth Films), and Studiocanal’s 40th anniversary re-release of Akira Kurosawa’s epic “Ran.”

Musical fare is provided by “Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful” from Trafalgar Releasing, while Dreamz Entertainment’s Telugu-language fantasy “Kannappa” and Moviegoers Entertainment’s horror “Maa” add South Asian flavors to the diverse slate.
