Evacuees Cope With Uncertainty After California Chemical Plant Crisis

Displaced residents sheltering in Huntington Beach, Calif., helped one other amid uncertainty after a chemical tank began overheating at an industrial complex, prompting evacuation orders.

For the last 24 hours, I’ve been, like, evacuation-site hopping. We got an evacuation notice and we had to get out, you know, so we did. That kind of hopeful, a little bit, that no explosion. But we always expect the unexpected, and we always prepare. I’m scared because I don’t know what’s going to happen, and I don’t know if anything that already is in the air is going to affect us. Helping with the shelter to calm our people down, to make sure that they have food, they have a drink, they have, like, a place to live.
