Experts from the World Health Organization said at a press briefing on Thursday that the wider public health threat from the hantavirus outbreak linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius remained low.
The WHO director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said there may be more cases due to the long incubation period of the virus.
Abdirahman Mahamud, the WHO head of department for health emergency alert and response operations, said a large epidemic was not anticipated, and Maria Van Kerkhove, the acting director of the department of epidemic and pandemic threat, said the outbreak was ‘not the start of a Covid pandemic’
