Spirit Airlines Shuts Down
After two stints in bankruptcy, Spirit Airlines — the low-cost carrier that reshaped American aviation but lost billions in recent years — canceled all flights and said it was “winding down all operations” on Saturday.
“This morning at 3 a.m., Spirit Airlines ceased operations. If you have a flight scheduled with Spirit Airlines, don’t show up at the airport. There will be no one here to assist you. If you’re a customer, many of the airlines that are not Spirit are stepping up to provide you assistance. Once the JetBlue and the Spirit deal didn’t go through, and then the Frontier and the Spirit deal didn’t go through, I knew that we wasn’t probably going to last long.
