Oahu Residents Assess Flood Damage as Rain Drenches Maui
Hawaii has been pounded for over a week by back-to-back storms. Weather officials said that 10 to 14 inches of rain fell on Thursday into Friday on Oahu, unleashing severe flooding. The storm has moved to Maui, where flash flood warnings were issued on Saturday.
“This is the largest flood that we’ve had in Hawaii in 20 years. Everyone’s worked together. The National Guard has been out there. Our military, active military duty has been there for us, and citizens everywhere have been taking care of each other. That’s what you do in Hawaii. That is what we are as an ohana.” “Man, look at this. Never seen this, 35 years on the North Shore. This is heavy.” “Two a.m., the water’s still rising, cars completely submerged.”
