People Protest Federal Immigration Agents After Fatal Shooting

People protested the death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, whom federal agents fatally shot during demonstrations against a ramped-up immigration enforcement effort by the Trump administration. Federal officials said that Mr. Pretti had approached agents with a handgun and “wanted to do maximum damage.” But video from the scene shows Mr. Pretti was holding a phone, not a gun.

“No more Minnesota nice.” “Minneapolis will strike.” “Minneapolis will strike.” “We believe in peace. And we believe that Donald Trump needs to pull these 3,000 untrained agents out of Minnesota before they kill another person.” “Our Title 8 immigration mission continues unabated here in Minneapolis, despite yesterday’s tragedy that was preventable by folks making better choices.” “And I can confidently say that there are even more people in the struggle now.” “He cared about people deeply, and he was very upset with what was happening in Minneapolis and throughout the United States with ICE, as millions of other people are upset.” “He hated that, you know, people were just trashing the land. And he was an outdoorsman. He took his dog everywhere he went. You know, he loved this country.” “Donald Trump, let’s be clear. Immigrants are welcome here. Our streets. Our streets. Our streets.” “To have to go get an order from a judge to preserve that evidence is extraordinary and should alarm everyone who believes in equal justice under the law.”
