For many of us, the weekend is the time to unwind from the work week, but for Timothée Chalamet, it appears to be the ideal time to hop on a Zoom call to brainstorm ideas for promoting his upcoming film, Marty Supreme. The Josh Safdie film is loosely based on the life of ping-pong legend Marty Reisman, where Chalamet plays the fictional Marty Mauser. The already buzzing film arrives on Dec. 25, and Chalamet’s rousing press rollout has been a welcome one.

Early on Saturday morning, the actor took to social media to share a new 18-minute Zoom video featuring the ostensible marketing team behind the A24 film. During the clip, he shares his ideas for, as he puts it, “one of the most important things that happens on Planet Earth this year. Marty Supreme. Christmas Day.”

After they finish introducing themselves, Chalamet immediately shares his enthusiasm for the film and its rollout. “I wake up every morning, I think culmination, integration, like all of us, and fruition, fruitionizing, which is not a word, obviously, but fruitionizing the release of this movie, like really making sure it comes out in a great way.”

He then shares his idea of painting landmarks — such as the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower — in Marty Supreme orange, and also shares a drawing. “My visual artist, it took him six months to mock this up,” he explains before presenting an orange line drawing of a blimp that a kindergartner could’ve created in mere minutes. Kudos to those joining the Zoom, who play along with Chalamet’s deadpan-delivered ideas. It’s unclear whether they too are actors or actual folks from A24, but none of them “break character” as Chalamet’s pitches continue to become more absurd.

On the blimp tip, he suggests taking to the skies above a festival to make a big, but potentially maiming, splash. “Tyler is headlining Flog Gnaw,” he says of his Marty Supreme co-star Tyler, the Creator (billed under his given name Tyler Okonma). He refers to Tyler’s festival Camp Flog Gnaw, which coincidentally was postponed this weekend due to the weather in Los Angeles. It will now take place next weekend, Nov. 22 and 23.

“We should have the blimp go above Flog Gnaw and rain ping-pong balls, Marty Supreme-branded, rain ping-pong balls on everyone,” he proposes excitedly. When one of the marketers mentions it might be a safety hazard, Chalamet acknowledges the danger. “I don’t want to put anybody in an unsafe condition, but I don’t want to be too safe about putting out this movie.” He adds: “If it’s the difference between, you know what I mean, someone losing an arm putting out the movie, but someone gaining an arm intellectually when they see it, I’m a fan of the latter.”

With nearly six weeks left until Christmas, there’s likely plenty more Marty Supreme promo fun ahead from Chalamet.
