Newsom Criticizes Trump’s Offshore Oil Drilling Proposal
During the United Nations climate summit on Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom of California responded to President Trump’s proposal to allow new oil and gas drilling off the California coast, declaring it “dead on arrival.”
We’ve talked in the past COPs about the polluted heart of the climate crisis being big oil. Increasingly, the polluted heart of the climate crisis appears to be Donald Trump. As it relates to offshore oil drilling, it’s overwhelmingly opposed by members of all political parties in the state of California. What’s fascinating to me — you may have seen this — he wants to open offshore oil drilling, and he intentionally aligned that to opening of COP. Well, his weakness, by the way, masquerading as strength, that’s all that was. But the answer to your question. Forgive the long-winded answer. It’s dead on arrival — dead on arrival. And I also think it remarkable that he didn’t promote it in his backyard at Mar-a-Lago. He didn’t promote it off the coast of Florida. That says everything about Donald Trump.
