When designer Todd Snyder fielded an invite for Aaron Tveit’s sold-out show at New York’s famed Café Carlyle last year, it was an easy yes.
“As a regular theater-goer, I jumped at the chance and was blown away by what a superstar he is,” the designer said in comments shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “Not only does he have an incredible voice, but he also possesses the style and confidence that define star power.”
Those qualities are on display in Todd Snyder’s fall campaign, which debuted today and features the Tony Award winning performer in a variety of looks from formal to city chic. But it’s not their first collaboration. Following the Café Carlyle performance, Snyder worked with Tveit on his London shows.
“He was dynamite and looked every bit the dapper and elegant gentleman, combined with extraordinary stage presence. That was the moment I realized we needed to work on a campaign together. We share a love for classic tailoring that Aaron wears so flawlessly,” Snyder said in comments first reported by WWD which broke news of the campaign, captured “brilliantly” by Matthew Brookes. “I love the shots on the New York City streets. Aaron really owns the moment. And no doubt he’ll also own Broadway when he opens next month in the revival of Chess.”
After filling seats for his work on Broadway in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Sweeney Todd, Catch Me If You Can, Next to Normal and Wicked, Tveit is back on stage in Chess opposite Lea Michele and Nicholas Christopher at the Imperial Theatre. The show is currently in previews and set to open Nov. 16.
About the new campaign, Tveit praised the timelessness of Todd Snyder’s designs to WWD.
“I just think the clothes are really cool and they make me feel really cool but in a grown-up way. As an elder Millennial, my generation continued to dress like a teenager far too long and Todd’s clothes have the ability to make us feel cool while allowing us to dress like adults,” he explained. “I’ve had a blue chore coat that I think was the first thing that I wore at a magazine shoot in 2017. And from this campaign, the green floor-length military coat is really something.”
As a face for Todd Snyder, Tveit follows in the footsteps of previous boldfaced name ambassadors Sterling K. Brown, Matt Bomer and Matt Berninger.
