George Clooney says of his children: “It’s important to me that they can survive,” and invites them to watch his handyman skills around their farm in France, including “fixing … the automated cover for the swimming pool” (Report, 7 October). My favourite TV subtitle was during a jazz documentary (Letters, 6 October). Thelonious Monk was described as “the loneliest monk”, which I presume is the reason he produced great music, as there was no one around to distract him.

As Hurricane Ida made landfall in 2021, Louisiana, according to BBC News, was “lashed by a Harry Kane”.
