Tonies, the German-founded company that pioneered screen-free audio play for children, has officially rolled out its most ambitious update since debuting the category nearly a decade ago. As of October 5, the brand’s Toniebox 2 is available, marking the biggest update yet to its bestselling interactive audio system that has become a fixture in households worldwide. The launch marks a major step forward for the company, expanding beyond storytelling and music into interactive gaming and enhanced features aimed at families with kids ages 1 to 9 and beyond.

“Toniebox 2 builds on everything families already love – but unlocks so much more,” Ginny McCormick, the Tonies CXO, said in a statement. “We’ve stayed true to our vision of audio-first storytelling, while introducing a new layer of interactive play that empowers kids to discover, imagine, and explore through Tonieplay. With smarter bedtime and wake-up features, Toniebox 2 now supports families from morning routines to nighttime wind-downs, creating more opportunities for child independence and easy routines.”

Since its 2014 debut, Tonies has sold more than 9.5 million Tonieboxes and over 125 million collectible Tonie figurines, featuring characters from Disney, “PAW Patrol,” and “Gabby’s Dollhouse,” among others. With Toniebox 2, the company is introducing new design elements and an expanded content lineup.

The device now integrates bedtime and wake-up tools including a sleep timer, light features and a sunrise alarm, underscoring its role as an all-day family companion rather than a toy reserved for playtime. A new Light Ring glows in rainbow colors as kids swap figurines or play games, while refreshed app controls give parents greater oversight on usage. Available in a new lineup of colors like Sunset Red and Tropical Teal, Toniebox 2 maintains compatibility with existing Tonies while layering in a modernized design and updated hardware.

Perhaps the most notable expansion is Tonieplay, the brand’s entry into the gaming space. Instead of screens, Tonieplay harnesses audio prompts and physical controls to guide children through quizzes, adventure and interactive storytelling challenges. With launch titles featuring characters from “Winnie the Pooh,” Disney classics, and tonies’ own Lalalinos, the format positions itself as a board game-meets-audio experience, designed for both solo play and group participation. Tonie executives describe it as a natural evolution for a platform that already encourages independent, imagination-driven engagement.

The Toniebox 2 is officially available at us.tonies.com, Amazon and Walmart. Walmart will add in-store sales on November 1. Starter sets begin at $139.99, with Tonieplay games priced between $19.99 and $34.99 and the My First Tonies line ranging from $14.99 to $39.99.
