Lil Nas X is in treatment, his attorneys said this week, following his arrest last month on multiple charges for allegedly charging at police officers who stopped him as he walked in his underwear down a Los Angeles street.

The artist, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer during the August incident.

During a court hearing in the case on Monday, attorneys for Hill told Los Angeles county Judge Shellie Samuels that the Grammy-winning musician was receiving in-patient treatment out of state.

“Defendant is allowed to remain out of state as long as he remains in treatment,” Samuels said, according to Rolling Stone.

His legal team confirmed the development after the hearing, telling the magazine that “we’re addressing those issues” and “this is a bump that he’s going to get over”.

“We’re doing what is best for Montero from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his well-being,” attorney Drew Findling said.

“He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him.”

Hill skyrocketed to fame in 2018 after his song Old Town Road became a No 1 hit, and stayed at the top of the charts for a record-breaking 19 weeks. He went on to win two Grammy awards.

In the early morning hours of 21 August, Hill was allegedly “strolling naked” on a Studio City street when he allegedly assaulted officers who were trying to take him into custody and injured three, according to a statement from the Los Angeles district attorney’s office.

Days after the incident, the 26-year-old said in a video on social media: “Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all.”

“That was fucking terrifying. That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days but your girl’s gonna be all right.”

The artist faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
