Jon Steinlauf, who ran ad-sales operations at the former Scripps Networks and Discovery Communications, along with Warner Bros. Discovery, has joined the board of directors of VideoAmp, one of a number of upstart media-measurement concerns hoping to provide alternatives to Nielsen, the dominant player in the space.

Steinlauf played a significant role in Warner adopting VideoAmp technology to provide alternative measurement technology to advertisers in recent years. Nielsen and Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced it had renewed a contract for Nielsen to provide its measurement data to the media conglomerate, though it has also maintained a contract with VideoAmp.

“Jon offers the rare combination of industry expertise and client experience, having worked
directly with VideoAmp and seen firsthand the impact our solutions can deliver,” said Peter
Liguori, Chief Executive Officer of VideoAmp, in a prepared statement. “His deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing advertisers and publishers will be instrumental as we continue to accelerate the industry’s shift toward more transparent, interoperable, and effective measurement.”

During his time in sales, Steinlauf developed a reputation as a thoughtful, academic who devised non-traditional advertising packages across a broad media portfolio. One effort created packages of commercial inventory in top programs that encompassed not only lifestyle shows from Discovery outlets like Food Network and TLC, but also sports properties; movies that might turn up on TNT and TBS; and tentpole events at CNN.

VideoAmp has in recent months renewed and expanded partnerships with AMC Networks, A+E Networks, Fox, NBCUniversal, Paramount Global, and TelevisaUnivision.

“VideoAmp is leading a generational shift in how audiences are measured and valued across
platforms,” said Steinlauf, in a prepared statement “As someone who has relied on VideoAmp’s capabilities as a client, I’m excited to join the Board to help accelerate this transformation and ensure the entire ecosystem can unlock more value from its investments.
