Korean beauty brands aren’t just changing the skin care space — they’re using innovative formulas in hair care, too.

Scalp health is the focus of Dr. Groot (no, not that Groot), which launched in the U.S. in 2023 and is among Korea’s bestselling hair care brands. Hollywood hairstylist Mark Townsend (whose clients include Dakota Johnson, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Aubrey Plaza, Riley Keough, Parker Posey and other stars) is a fan of the company’s three-step volumizing Scalp Revitalizing Solution line of shampoo, conditioner and an in-shower treatment, which are designed to be used together to get rid of the gunky buildup on your scalp from oil, other hair care products and dry skin.

The Korean hair care brand’s three-step hair thickening regimen starts with the shampoo, then Miracle in Shower Treatment and finally the conditioner. Clinical studies found that 100 percent of users reported improvement in scalp dryness and redness, while 76 percent said the shampoo helped remove buildup on their scalp’s pores. However, we experienced the results for ourselves last fall at Mare Salon in West Hollywood, where Townsend gave us the A-list tress treatment with Dr. Groot’s products. We left our appointment with the full Scalp Revitalizing Solution line to test out — and about six weeks later, our hair was completely transformed.

After about a month and a half of using the shampoo, in-shower treatment and conditioner (in that exact order), we noticed that our hair felt bouncier and thicker, our scalp was less itchy and our hairline started sprouting new strands. The secret is in Dr. Groot’s proprietary formula that includes prebiotics to nourish the hair follicle and improve the scalp environment, and biotin to promote keratin production and prevent hair loss. Other active ingredients include rosemary oil to stimulate the hair and scalp and caffeine to deliver more nutrients to the hair follicles.

The Scalp Revitalizing Solution line is also safe for all hair textures and scalp types. The brand’s products are dermatologist-tested, safe for color-treated hair made without parabens, silicones or sulfates. Dr. Groot also offers the Professional Bonding System range for revitalizing and repairing damaged hair and anti-dandruff products.

Founded in 2017, Dr. Groot is owned by LG’s beauty division and pulls from its parent company’s more than 50 years of research to develop salon-quality products. Per the brand, the label is backed by “a powerhouse team of scientists and dermatologists [who] have researched hair and scalp issues for over 50 years to develop proprietary technologies.
