Sharon Stone has been rooting for her longtime friend and fellow actor Eric Dane for some time.
The actress recently told Entertainment Tonight at the Nobody 2 premiere that she was Dane’s “support staff” when he was auditioning for the hit HBO show Euphoria years ago. Earlier this year, the actor revealed that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
“Eric and I have been friends for a long time. A long time,” she said. “And I actually was like his support staff when he was trying to get the job on Euphoria. So he would come over to my house and give me gluten-free cookies and we’d sit and discuss it because he really wanted that job.”
Stone added that “it means the world to me that he got that job in time,” prior to his ALS diagnosis.
The two actors are set to star in the upcoming third season, with Dane reprising his role as Cal Jacobs, the Jacobs family patriarch, and Stone joining in a mystery role. Dane initially debuted his character in 2019’s season one.
In April, the Grey’s Anatomy alum announced his ALS diagnosis publicly, writing, “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.”
“I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week,” he added at the time. “I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a “nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time,” according to the Mayo Clinic. There is no cure for the disease.
In June, Dane told Diane Sawyer that he had already lost function in his right arm and worried about weakness on his left side and in his legs, adding, “It’s sobering.”
The actor shares two teenage children with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart.
