\n\t\u201cWindmills, and the rest of this \u2018JUNK,\u2019 are the most expensive and inefficient energy in the world, is destroying the beauty of the environment, and is 10 times more costly than any other energy,\u201d Trump posted on Truth Social. He added that renewables are mostly made in China. \u201cIt is time to break away, finally, from this craziness!!!\u201d he wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tSen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) quickly said that wind energy is a key energy source in his state \u2014 and cheap. \u201cIowans get 60% of their electricity frm wind energy It\u2019s an important tool for America\u2019s energy independence &2 keep Iowans\u2019 utility bills low,\u201d he posted on X.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tGrassley, who is even older than Trump, has been a champion of wind energy since he pushed legislation incentivizing wind energy in 1993.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tAs Senate Judiciary Chair, Grassley plays a key role in advancing Trump\u2019s agenda in Congress. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the upper chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tGrassley also pushed back on Trump in April when the president called windmills \u201cstupid\u201d at a rally in Michigan. \u201cI like to tell him, when he talks about wind energy killing birds, there are more birds that fly into the glass towers in Washington, D.C., including his, that kill more birds than wind energy does,\u201d Grassley told Iowa station KCCI.<\/p>\n
\n\tDespite Trump\u2019s claims that windmills and other renewable energy sources are expensive, in real life, wind energy is a cheap source of power. Both wind and solar energy cost less than fossil fuels. Any increased prices are likely due to inflation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tWind energy seems to occupy a lot of space in Trump\u2019s mind. At a campaign event in Wisconsin last year, Trump appears to have said people aren\u2019t eating bacon because wind energy is expensive.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cYou take a look at bacon and some of these products \u2014 and some people don\u2019t eat bacon any more,\u201d Trump said. \u201cWe are going to get the energy prices down. When we get energy down, you know \u2026 this was caused by their horrible energy \u2014 wind. They want wind all over the place. But when it doesn\u2019t blow, we have a little problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2023, he claimed windmills are driving whales \u201ccrazy\u201d and killing them. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there is \u201cno scientific evidence\u201d that windmills are killing whales.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThe windmills are killing our country by the way,\u201d Trump said earlier this month. He called them \u201cthe greatest scam in history. It\u2019s the most expensive energy you can buy. They\u2019re ugly.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tOn Trump\u2019s first day in office, he issued an executive order halting wind energy projects. More than a dozen attorneys general then sued the administration over the executive order. The Trump administration moved to dismiss the suit. Then, earlier this week, a judge said he plans to deny that motion, allowing the case to proceed.<\/p>\n
