Late-night hosts dissected Donald Trump\u2019s mixed messaging on war in Iran after he abruptly departed the G7 summit early.<\/p>\n
Donald Trump was supposed to be in Canada on Tuesday, \u201cwhere he is not exactly the belle of the ball\u201d, said Jimmy Kimmel that evening. \u201cTrump is about as popular in Canada right now as the Florida Panthers,\u201d who won their second Stanley Cup championship in a row this week.<\/p>\n
Trump, however, cut out of the summit a day early to return to Washington DC. \u201cPoor Melania, she thought she had one more night,\u201d Kimmel quipped.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
According to the French president, Emmanuel Macron, Trump bailed to help broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, after the former struck the latter\u2019s nuclear facilities. \u201cFor whatever reason, that rubbed Trump the wrong way,\u201d Kimmel explained. The president took to Truth Social, where he called Macron \u201cpublicity-seeking\u201d and dismissed his comments as \u201cwrong!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a cease fire,\u201d he added, calling the reason \u201cmuch bigger than that\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a ceasefire, it\u2019s much bigger than that?\u201d Kimmel wondered. \u201cCould it be a bowel movement? I don\u2019t know!<\/p>\n
\u201cTrump calling another president \u2018publicity-seeking\u2019 is like Diddy calling you a bad boyfriend,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Kimmel noted that just a couple days ago, Trump suggested that Vladimir Putin broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. \u201cWhich is a great idea,\u201d Kimmel deadpanned. \u201cYou know the guy who won\u2019t agree to a ceasefire? Let\u2019s have him work on the ceasefire! And while you\u2019re at it, have Nick Cannon grab me a box of condoms too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know about you, but I\u2019m feeling pretty nostalgic for last week, when all we had to worry about was a civil war,\u201d said Stephen Colbert on the Late Show. \u201cBecause as we speak, Donald Trump is weighing whether to get America involved in yet another Mid-east war.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he goes in, this would go against everything he campaigned on for the last 10 years,\u201d Colbert added. \u201cWhat\u2019s next? We\u2019re going to find out that it\u2019s not fun to stay at the YMCA?\u201d<\/p>\n
To recap: Israel launched attacks against Iran last Friday. Trump and the US military said they were not involved, but on Monday, Trump rushed back to DC midway through the G7 leaders\u2019 summit in Canada. \u201cSo either the United States is about to jump in, or he just got bored during the G7 icebreakers.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an unhelpful development, Trump then posted on Truth Social: \u201cWe know exactly where the so-called \u2018Supreme Leader\u2019 is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there \u2013 We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s crazy,\u201d Colbert responded. \u201cThat is a bald threat. And I gotta say, putting parentheses around \u2018kill\u2019 does not make it any better.\u201d<\/p>\n
