\n\t\u201cI finally made it to Cannes!\u201d roared Jimmy Fallon as he vigorously stepped on stage at his Cannes Lions keynote. The event was held at the Palais des Festivals\u2019 Debussy Theater, an iconic venue where movies premiere during the Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn typical \u201cTonight Show\u201d fashion, Fallon started off with a monologue that made the packed auditorium break into continuous laugher before he even sat down.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI\u2019m feeling great,\u201d he said, standing on stage next to \u201cToday\u201d host Savannah Guthrie. \u201cWe just double-taped \u2018The Tonight Show\u2019 yesterday. I got on a flight. It was a seven-and-a-half hour flight. There was a two-hour delay. Then there was a one-hour flight, then a 45-minute drive. I\u2019m ready to party. Let\u2019s go!\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHe said he spent his first night in the old town at Maschou restaurant, which soon turned into a dance spot. He was even photographed trying (and failing) to recreate the iconic lift scene from \u201cDirty Dancing\u201d with someone he didn\u2019t know. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThey started playing great music. They were playing Michael Jackson. They were playing The Pointer Sisters. Then they played \u2018(I\u2019ve Had) the Time of My Life,\u2019 and I was jumping in a stranger\u2019s arms,\u201d he said. \u201cWe had a full-on dance party last night. It was unbelievable. Then we finished the dance off and someone gave me a card. They go, \u2018Hey, we\u2019re from 7-Eleven, and we love you.\u2019 I go, \u2018Wow, already we\u2019re doing business deals!’\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tFallon made his way to Cannes to tease his next show, \u201cOn Brand,\u201d a new NBC marketing competition series which he\u2019ll be hosting and executive producing. Premiering in the fall, the show will see contestants pitching marketing ideas to big brands. As Fallon put it, the winner will get the \u201cbragging rights of being the innovator of the year,\u201d and a cash prize of $100,000.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe made it happen, and we got eight brands!\u201d he said. These include Dunkin\u2019, KitchenAid, Pillsbury and Southwest Airlines. For Season 2, Fallon said they\u2019re aiming to lure 10 brands.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt hasn\u2019t even aired yet. As we were announcing the show, one of our contestants had this idea for a podcast of his dad\u2019s cooking. He\u2019s filming it now!\u201d Fallon said. \u201cHe\u2019s already thought of this idea and made it into a real thing. Things are changing and happening. It\u2019s all happening in real time, and I\u2019m happy to be part of this.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe basic idea for the show, Fallon said, is to \u201cpull back the curtain\u201d and \u201cgive brands an opportunity\u201d to show that \u201cthey\u2019re not just a business \u2014 they\u2019re people. And what do they believe in, and what are they looking for?\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s so beyond product placement,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s actually entertaining and fun. We\u2019re giving you 40 minutes as opposed to a 30-second spot. It\u2019s not an integration. I\u2019m talking about your brand for a whole hour.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tFallon was joined on stage by Bozoma Saint John, the marketing executive turned entrepreneur who is now on \u201cThe Real Housewives of Beverly Hills\u201d and was recruited by Fallon to be a judge and mentor for \u201cOn Brand.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe idea of bringing Saint John on board for \u201cOn Brand\u201d came from his wife, Fallon said. \u201cI remember we were looking for a co-host, and my wife said, \u2018You should get Bozoma from \u201cReal Housewives.\u201d\u2018 I go, \u2018I don\u2019t think I\u2019m looking for that type of person. I don\u2019t know what \u2018Real Housewives\u2019 is. I wasn\u2019t caught up. Then I watched and I saw her resume and I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, my gosh. Dude, I mean PepsiCo, Uber, Netflix. Beyonc\u00e9! You\u2019re in the Marketing Hall of Fame! I go, \u2018You\u2019re overqualified for this job. You\u2019ve legitimized this show,’\u201d Fallon said. \u201cAs soon as we met on Zoom, we hit it off.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tSaint John was equally enthusiastic. \u201cI was like, If I don\u2019t get this show, I\u2019m going to just harm the person who gets it,\u201d she joked. <\/p>\n
\n\tFallon also talked about \u201cThe Tonight Show,\u201d which has become the most viewed late night show and the most followed across socials globally. \u201cI just got the numbers today \u2026 and our socials this year alone have been 8.6 billion views since June,\u201d he said. \u201cThe reason people even know why I\u2019m here is because of digital and YouTube and what our stuff has done and grown.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHe said the No. 1 rule to create a viral moment is being authentic. \u201cWe\u2019ll do a bit, and we don\u2019t even know how big it\u2019s going to get. You can never plan it. If you try to go like, \u2018Oh, trust me, this will go viral.\u2019 It won\u2019t. Don\u2019t do it,\u201d he said. \u201cJust do something that\u2019s different and new that no one\u2019s seen before, and do it with love. If you make it with love, people can tell if it\u2019s fake or not, and they\u2019ll go, \u2018That\u2019s cool.\u2019 That\u2019s something different.’\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe next big thing that could go viral is a video he just did with Brad Pitt for \u201cF1,\u201d where they play frisbee golf in Central Park. <\/p>\n
