Chipotle said on Tuesday \u2060it had removed jalape\u00f1os from some of the chain\u2019s restaurants after identifying \u2060the peppers as \u2060a \u200bpotential ingredient tied to a salmonella outbreak, replacing them \u2060with supplies from different growers.<\/p>\n
The company said it \u200bbegan tracing \u200cingredients through its supply \u200cchain after learning of a \u200cpotential outbreak and identified jalape\u00f1os from a common lot as a possible source.<\/p>\n
\u201cOut of an abundance of caution, we proactively removed the jalape\u00f1os from \u200cour restaurants and replaced them with product from different growers,\u201d \u200bChipotle said, adding that it was cooperating with public health authorities investigating the outbreak.<\/p>\n
Shares of Chipotle fell 7% in Tuesday-\u2060afternoon trading.<\/p>\n
Earlier on Tuesday, Bloomberg News \u2060reported the company had removed jalape\u00f1os from \u200bmultiple \u200bstores in Minnesota \u200bafter learning the peppers may be \u200blinked \u200cto a \u200bsalmonella \u200boutbreak in the state that has sickened 110 people.<\/p>\n
That outbreak is separate from one centering on cases of cyclosporiasis \u2013 an intestinal illness \u2013 that has affected nine states. The cyclosporiasis outbreak had sickened more than 6,700 people nationwide, including two in Michigan who died.<\/p>\n
