Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie made an emotional return to the NBC morning show on Monday, 64 days after her mother, Nancy, was abducted from her home in Phoenix, Arizona.<\/p>\n
\u201cWelcome to Today on this Monday morning. We are so glad you started your week with us, and it\u2019s good to be home,\u201d Guthrie told viewers.<\/p>\n
Her co-host, Craig Melvin, responded: \u201cYes, it is good to have you back home \u2026 so good to have you back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, here we go, ready or not, let\u2019s do the news,\u201d Guthrie said.<\/p>\n
The hosts then went straight into the news of the day, reporting the latest news on a potential ceasefire in Iran.<\/p>\n
Despite the heavy circumstances, Guthrie participated in the friendly banter the show is known for, weighing in on the college basketball championship. \u201cShout out to my Arizona Wildcats,\u201d she said. \u201cThey did make it to the Final Four.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weatherman Al Roker welcomed Guthrie back to the show before his segment, saying: \u201cGood to see you, my dear.\u201d (\u201cGood morning, sunshine,\u201d Guthrie said.)<\/p>\n
Guthrie\u2019s 84-year-old mother, Nancy, remains missing. During an interview with her longtime television partner Hoda Kotb that aired late last month, Guthrie said she doesn\u2019t know for sure that she will be able to return to the role she has held since 2012 \u2013 and the network has not made clear whether Guthrie is back permanently.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know if I can do it,\u201d Guthrie told Kotb. \u201cI don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll belong any more, but I would like to try. I would like to try.\u201d<\/p>\n
During Monday\u2019s broadcast, Melvin noted a large number of viewers had crowded outside the studio \u201cto welcome back our dear friend\u201d, with the camera panning to signs supporting Guthrie.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome beautiful signs out there,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cThere have been signs for so long,\u201d Today show personality Carson Daly said. \u201cThey\u2019re going to be so excited to see you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to see them, give them all a hug,\u201d Guthrie responded. \u201cI\u2019ve been really feeling the love so much.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guthrie got a huge round of applause when she walked out on to the plaza during the second hour of the show with her colleagues.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou guys have been so beautiful,\u201d she told the assembled fans, tearing up. \u201cI\u2019ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers. So, thank you so much.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
