The move to the cloud has been one of the key trends in\u00a0in the financial services space\u00a0over the last decade, but companies are now finding that\u00a0optimal\u00a0solutions require integration of multiple\u00a0cloud\u00a0platforms, says Neill Clark, Managing Director and Head of State Street Associates EMEA. \u201cFive years ago, I would have said the key is to get all of your data on a cloud \u2013 ideally a single cloud \u2013 and once you\u2019ve done that, you\u2019ve got a set of cloud-native tools and you\u2019re good to go,\u201d says\u00a0Clark.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cNow the notion of a multi-cloud strategy plus on-prem makes more sense. The reality is everyone ended up multi-cloud by default because they\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0get to one cloud. Now\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0the right choice to make, because new tools are coming out all the time and computing costs vary.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Colette Garcia, Global Head of Enterprise Data Real Time Content at Bloomberg, confirms that this approach aligns with how firms are striving to balance flexibility and precision in their data strategies. \u201cThat resonates with us \u2013 getting you the data wherever you need it, cloud-agnostic, on-prem-agnostic.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0the quality of the data and being able to deliver it wherever you need it,\u201d she says.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Another growing trend experts point to is the integration of\u00a0agentic\u00a0AI into core areas of business, including investment research and portfolio management. The goal is not to\u00a0eliminate\u00a0human insight and judgment, but to enhance it through automated data retrieval.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to\u00a0Gr\u00e9goire Dooms, Head of Data Research & Development at\u00a0Systematica,\u00a0AI enriches the information sets that analysts and portfolio managers can incorporate into their decision-making. \u201cAI has completely lowered the bar for access and scale of processing unstructured data \u2013 text data,\u201d\u00a0says Dooms.\u00a0\u201cIt is enabling us to build feature-extraction pipelines that are sector-specific or asset-specific and scale them tremendously.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n State Street\u2019s Clark\u00a0adds\u00a0that broader data plus natural language processing tools have significantly enhanced his organization\u2019s research product. \u201cWe\u2019ve seen significant metric improvements: 60% better measurement of some macro criteria, 20\u201330% better prediction outcomes in certain use cases,\u201d he comments. \u201cIt\u2019s a meaningful revision in how you can access unstructured data.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n AI capabilities have revolutionized the relationship between financial services organizations and their clients, allowing firms to share data and insights with clients in real-time.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cWe\u2019re experimenting with open-architecture data sharing with our clients\u2014with no barriers at all,\u201d said State Street\u2019s\u00a0Clark.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019ve\u00a0still got to assemble the control around it, with real-time access to data at a moment of your choosing, in a format of your choosing, integrated and delivered in a way that you can integrate with your other data sets. That feels like the way\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0be exchanging information with our clients in the future, somehow.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Notably, as AI\u2019s capabilities grow, companies have to continually upgrade the guardrails that ensure regulatory compliance and ethical practices, turning strong data strategy and governance into a competitive advantage.\u00a0And in a fast-approaching future where AI-enabled models may make investment decisions without human input, the need for these controls becomes even more critical.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Technological capabilities are changing so fast that\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0hard to predict what AI will look like in a month, let alone a year or five years out.
