Arne Slot said it was understandable that questions were being asked over his future as Liverpool head coach, but he insisted he retained the support of the club\u2019s hierarchy following another heavy defeat, this time against PSV Eindhoven.<\/p>\n
Liverpool fell to a ninth defeat in 12 games, the club\u2019s worst run since being relegated in 1953-54, as they were picked apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield. Liverpool last lost three successive games by a three-goal margin or more in December 1953.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from above,\u201d Slot said. \u201cIt would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked. I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I\u2019ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.\u201d<\/p>\n
Asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said: \u201cWe talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don\u2019t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me. In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven\u2019t spoken to them after this game yet so let\u2019s see.\u201d<\/p>\n
Slot lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily, but the midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club\u2019s predicament.<\/p>\n
Jones said: \u201cI don\u2019t have the answers. Honestly, I don\u2019t. I\u2019m saying that to everybody. It\u2019s just unacceptable. I don\u2019t even have to wait to think about it. I\u2019m past being angry inside. I\u2019m at the point now where I just don\u2019t have the words. It\u2019s hard because I\u2019m playing for the team I support. I\u2019m a fan, and I\u2019ve seen this club all my life. In a long, long time, I haven\u2019t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results like these.<\/p>\n
