Conriquez. This time, Vega leans fully into reggaeton, rap, EDM, and even a poppier, club-ready sound.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI learned <em>un chingo<\/em>, honestly,\u201d Vega tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> from his Las Vegas hotel suite ahead of the Latin Grammys. \u201cMusically, it\u2019s a new level of maturity, because you\u2019re recording things you don\u2019t know how to do \u2014 or don\u2019t know how to do yet, because you\u2019ve never done them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe told himself: I give it a shot \u2014 if it works, cool; if not, I won\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tVega says he didn\u2019t go into making <em>Delirium<\/em> with any real plan \u2014 he just let the songs build themselves over time. \u201cAs we started pumping out the songs, they started taking on that color, that theme,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s something for antros, for dancing, all that shit. Everything just happened very naturally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe\u2019d been working with Edgar Barrera on several tracks when he connected with Blanco, with whom he had two sessions \u2014 and they immediately found synergy. \u201cIt was something bien <em>ching\u00f3n<\/em>, honestly,\u201d Vega says of working with Blanco. \u201cSince he stepped out of his comfort zone, I think he worked a little differently. Blanco says they explored various sonic ideas, including a West Coast beat that Vega immediately gravitated toward.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cHe just has the coolest vocal style of not caring, but caring so deeply at the same time about his process,\u201d says Blanco. \u201cThat laissez-faire attitude comes off on the tracks is so intentional. I was just really drawn to his music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAlong with producing tracks, Blanco is featured on \u201cPerro Fiel,\u201d a song they both felt blended their styles perfectly. \u201cWe instantly made it. He was like, \u2018Damn, this is like you and me.\u2019 It was his idea to have me be featured on that one,\u201d Blanco says. \u201cAnd it is cool because it was a little bit more poppy than he normally goes on, but it had his raw ideas. Blanco\u2019s work with Vega came as he was also collaborating with Grupo Frontera on their latest LP and contributing to Xavi\u2019s upcoming project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s some of my favorite music in the world and my wife [Selena Gomez] grew up on it, so we listen to it a lot,\u201d Blanco says. \u201cIt\u2019s very much what we\u2019re playing at the barbecue\u2026 It\u2019s the best shit to play when you\u2019re by the pool or at the beach.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tVega is quick to shut down any questions about whether he pivoted genres because of political scrutiny around corridos (some artists, like Luis R Conriquez, have skipped corridos after performers in the genre appeared to face visa issues). \u201cI know what people like, so I have to give them everything,\u201d he says. \u201cI know I\u2019m going to keep making what I\u2019ve made since the beginning \u2014 and new things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAcross the album, he experiments with rapping \u2014 including English verses on \u201cNada Es Igual\u201d \u2014 dives into reggaeton on \u201cNachica,\u201d which recalls Calle 13\u2019s \u201cAtr\u00e9vete,\u201d fuses merengue and reggaeton on \u201cLentes,\u201d and collaborates with Jowell &amp; Randy on \u201cBaby de Los 2 Miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cMost of the songs on this album are about <em>viejas<\/em>,<em> la neta<\/em>,\u201d he says. \u201cWomen. I did it intentionally. Imagine you show up to a party and it\u2019s all guys \u2014 you leave. You get to an<em> antro <\/em>and it\u2019s all men \u2014 you don\u2019t even walk in. You peek in and turn around. That\u2019s why I did it \u2014 a lot of the themes are about a woman or women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tVega closes <em>Delirium<\/em> with what feels like an easter egg: a full corrido titled \u201cDesvelaos.\u201d The track is a sharp pivot from the rest of the album, but that was deliberate. \u201cIt\u2019s so the people don\u2019t think we\u2019re not going to make them anymore. Like, \u2018Here you go,\u2019\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019re never stepping away from that completely. We just wanted a new experience.
