Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.<\/span><\/p>\n Online security company Cloudflare suffered a widespread global outage on Tuesday, forcing popular sites such as X and OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT to go offline for some users. <\/p>\n The San Francisco-based company said on its website it was investigating the issue, which it blamed on \u201cinternal service degradation\u201d. <\/p>\n Cloudflare said some services were recovering but warned that customers might see \u201chigher-than-normal error rates\u201d. <\/p>\n The company said its network was also \u201coffline\u201d and that it was experiencing problems with its customer support site. It said it was working alongside its \u201cthird party provider to understand the full impact and mitigate this problem\u201d. <\/p>\n The incident comes just a month after Amazon\u2019s cloud business experienced a large outage, which hit a range of groups, including ride-hailing app Lyft, coffee chain Starbucks, Lloyds Bank and ChatGPT.<\/p>\n Recommended<\/p>\n Cloudflare\u2019s technology powers a significant part of the internet, with more than 20 per cent of all websites relying on its software, according to W3Techs.<\/p>\n Cloudflare said a \u201cspike in unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare\u2019s services\u201d caused \u201ctraffic passing through Cloudflare\u2019s network to experience errors\u201d. <\/p>\n \u201cWe do not yet know the cause of the spike in unusual traffic. We are all hands on deck to make sure all traffic is served without errors.
