\n\tGrey\u2019s Anatomy<\/em> star James Pickens Jr. has revealed he\u2019s been diagnosed with prostate cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tThe actor opened up about his diagnosis in a recent interview with Black Health Matters, where he noted that he has a family history of prostate cancer.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s not the kind of news anyone wants to hear, but to be honest, prostate cancer has run through my family. My father had it. He had a lot of brothers; several of them had it,\u201d he said. \u201cI would have been surprised if I hadn\u2019t gotten it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHowever, Pickens Jr. revealed his doctors told him they were \u201cable to catch it so early because you were being tested,\u201d as he explained that he was referred to a urologist after undergoing a routine physical where his PSA levels were examined.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI went back in January, and when my PSA numbers came back,\u00a0 my primary said, \u2018Yeah, you know what? It\u2019s ticked up some more. I want to send you back to the urologist,\u2019\u201d Pickens Jr. said. \u201cThe urologist looked at him and said, \u2018Yeah, there\u2019s something here. Let\u2019s do an MRI,\u2019\u2019which we did, and it revealed, as he called it, \u2018something suspicious.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe actor then opted to undergo a radical prostatectomy. He added, \u201cWe caught it really early, and so they thought that would be the best route to take.\u00a0 I do have a rare variant that you don\u2019t see very often.
