Melania Trump, the first lady, is spearheading a new initiative aimed at improving career and education opportunities for children raised in foster care.<\/p>\n
Her husband, Donald Trump, signed an executive order on Thursday that creates a \u201cFostering the Future\u201d program that brings together federal entities, non-profits, educational institutions and the private sector to develop those opportunities for foster youth.<\/p>\n
The order also creates an online hub that would help foster youth connect with key career and educational resources, while increasing access to vouchers and grants to support them in those efforts.<\/p>\n
The initiatives in the executive order \u201cgives me tremendous pride\u201d, Melania said, and the effort was \u201cboth empathetic and strategic\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI call on leadership from these various organizations, including the private sector, to join my effort,\u201d Melania said from the East Room before an audience that included lawmakers, cabinet officials and members of the foster-care community.<\/p>\n
The first lady added: \u201cRise above the ease of inaction.\u201d<\/p>\n
The broader \u201cFostering the Future\u201d initiative is an offshoot of the \u201cBe Best\u201d campaign that was her signature issue during Trump\u2019s first term. The initiative began in 2021 and offers scholarships to current and former foster youth. Participating schools include Vanderbilt University, the University of Miami, Villanova University and Oral Roberts University, according to the first lady\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The president, said he was \u201cdelighted\u201d to sign the initiative. He noted that the second lady, Usha Vance, was also very involved in Melania\u2019s effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have absolutely incredible results,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n
