He says there were accidental releases when Cartlidge was a justice minister. But Cartlidge did not apologise, he says.<\/p>\n<p>Share<\/p>\n<p>Updated at\u00a007.14 EST<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Cartlidge<\/strong> asks if any other asylum seekers have been accidentally released since Kebatu was released.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Lammy<\/strong> says he has put in place the toughest checks for prisons they have ever had in prisons.<\/p>\n<p>Share<\/p>\n<p>Updated at\u00a007.11 EST<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Cartlidge<\/strong> says he is surprised Lammy did not apologise.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><strong>Lammy<\/strong> says he has just explained that he did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><em>UPDATE:<\/em> <strong>Cartlidge<\/strong> said:<\/p>\n<p>Watching the interview last night, I have to say, was absolutely heartbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>And I have to say, I do think [Lammy] owes it to offer an apology here on the floor of the huse, but he should have done that at the start of his remarks.<\/p>\n<p>These are very serious matters, which is why I want to ask him a further very important question \u2013 can he reassure the house that since Kebatu was released, no other asylum seeking offender has been accidentally let out of prison?<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">And <strong>Lammy<\/strong> replied:<\/p>\n<p>The house is thankfully quiet, so I\u2019m surprised [Cartlidge] didn\u2019t hear me when I said that of course I apologise and I\u2019m sorry for the anxiety caused.<\/p>\n<p>But look, let me just remind him that he was a justice minister that allowed our prisons to get to this state in the first place and it\u2019s now for us to fix the mess that we\u2019ve got into.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s important that Dame Lynne Owens can now continue her work and understand what is happening.
