Released roughly once every five years, the ranking is based around small areas known as \u201clower layer super output areas\u201d (or LSOAs) \u2013 each usually home to between 1,000 and 3,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>In simple terms, it\u2019s a national league table of deprivation.
