\n\t\u201cStar Wars\u201d fans are not happy with Disney after Adam Driver revealed studio executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected a screenplay for a standalone movie centered on Kylo Ren\/Ben Solo, the character Driver played to much adoration from critics and fans in \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens,\u201d \u201cThe Last Jedi\u201d and \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker.\u201d The script was titled \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tAs reported by Collider, a group of \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans paid for a plane to fly a banner reading \u201cSave The Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. A reporter for the website was on location for the viral stunt and took photos of the banner flying overhead.<\/p>\n
\n\tDriver revealed to the Associated Press in an interview published Oct. 20 that he spent two years developing a standalone \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie centered on Ben Solo alongside director Steven Soderbergh. The film would have taken place after the events of \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker.\u201d\u00a0According to Driver, Soderbergh worked on the script with his \u201cLogan Lucky\u201d scribe Rebecca Blunt and longtime collaborator Scott Z. Burns (\u201cContagion,\u201d \u201cThe Informant!\u201d). Driver starred in Soderbergh\u2019s \u201cLogan Lucky\u201d and Burns\u2019 \u201cThe Report.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI always was interested in doing another \u2018Star Wars,\u2019\u201d Driver told the AP. \u201cI had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen [Kennedy] had reached out. I always said: \u2018With a great director and a great story, I\u2019d be there in a second.\u2019 I loved that character and loved playing him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDriver loved \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d script, calling it the \u201cstandard\u201d of what a \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie \u201cshould be\u201d and comparing it to the \u201chandmade and character-driven\u201d feel of \u201cThe Empire Strikes Back.\u201d The Oscar nominee said Lucasfilm execs Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Cary Beck\u00a0backed the project until Disney shut it down.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea,\u201d Driver recalled. \u201cThey totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no. They didn\u2019t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDriver\u2019s interview sent \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans into a tizzy, not only because Ben Solo is a fan favorite character but also because the \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie franchise has floundered over the years since \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker\u201d with many features stalled, delayed or scrapped. <\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I\u2019m just sorry the fans won\u2019t get to see it,\u201d Soderbergh told the AP about \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo,\u201d with Driver adding that it was \u201cone of the coolest scripts I had ever been a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe \u201cStar Wars\u201d franchise finally returns to the big screen next year with the release of \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu,\u201d a big screen continuation of the popular Disney+ series \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d that hits theaters May 22.
