{"id":29688,"date":"2025-10-22T02:58:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T02:58:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/naijaglobalnews.org\/?p=29688"},"modified":"2025-10-22T02:58:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T02:58:11","slug":"jon-stewart-on-donald-trump-hes-the-imitation-crab-of-kings-right-now-late-night-tv-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/naijaglobalnews.org\/?p=29688","title":{"rendered":"Jon Stewart on Donald Trump: \u2018He\u2019s the imitation crab of kings right now\u2019 | Late-night TV roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Late-night hosts recapped the record-breaking No Kings rallies against Donald Trump and mocked Republican attempts to dismiss the protests.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"jon-stewart\" class=\"dcr-n4qeq9\"><strong>Jon Stewart<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jon Stewart returned to his Daily Show post on Monday night, riding high from the energy of the No Kings rallies against Trump over the weekend, which Mike Johnson, the US House speaker, dismissed as the \u201chate America rally, and Scott Bessent, the US treasury secretary, called participants \u201cthe farthest left, the hardest core, the most unhinged in the Democratic party\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cSo, this weekend, we sat in our bunkers, doors locked, windows boarded, muskets and cyanide pills at the ready, prepared for whatever the hardest core had in store,\u201d Stewart joked. \u201cDo your worst, display your Marxism to its fullest!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In truth, the peaceful protests drew more than 7 million people in 2,700 locations in all 50 states, for the largest single-day protest against a sitting president in US history. \u201cIt was kind of an incredible turnout that was somewhat inspiring,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cSeven million Americans, zero mass shootings? I look forward to Republicans apologizing sincerely for implying these Americans were \u2026 what\u2019s the word I\u2019m looking for? Deplorable!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In light of the peaceful demonstrations, Fox News commentators called the protests \u201csilly\u201d and \u201cdumb\u201d. \u201cMake up your mind, Fox,\u201d Stewart mocked. \u201cYou complained it would be a terrifyingly \u2018shit your pants\u2019 protest, and now you are complaining about how boringly unpants-shitting it was?<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAlthough there was one nit you picked that really felt off brand,\u201d he added \u2013 the criticism, by some Fox News pundits, that the protests were full of too many \u201cangry old white people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cExtra extra, read all about it! \u2018This country has too many angry old white people,\u2019 says \u2013 hold on \u2013 Fox News,\u201d Stewart joked. \u201cFox News says: \u2018Why are old white people so angry?\u2019 Fox News, mad that there are so many old white people in America. I don\u2019t think Fox News is mad, I think they\u2019re jealous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Stewart then played archival coverage of the Tea Party protests during the Obama era, and sarcastically added: \u201cImagine a bunch of old white people in costumes angrily protesting the direction and overreach of an ever-encroaching federal government. I mean, preposterous. That\u2019s in no way a movement that could sweep the midterms and then be harnessed by a charismatic demagogue to remake an entire political party. I mean, it\u2019s laughable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In seriousness, Stewart called the rallies \u201cunfocused gatherings\u201d with a significant amount of \u201cpolitical potential\u201d, yet saw the simultaneous events as \u201ca great day for democracy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cLook, maybe Trump isn\u2019t an all-powerful king, the kind who can do whatever he wants, but he\u2019s undeniably king-adjacent, king-esque, moving for more,\u201d he added. \u201cHe\u2019s the imitation crab of kings right now. The \u2018I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s not king.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"seth-meyers\" class=\"dcr-n4qeq9\"><strong>Seth Meyers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Late Night, Seth Meyers also compared the coverage of the 7 million-strong No Kings protests to the Tea Party protests, which were \u201cmuch smaller, but commanded an obsessive amount of media attention\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt\u2019s worth keeping the comparison between the two rallies in mind, just to put into perspective just how unprecedented these anti-Trump protests have been,\u201d he said. \u201cSo naturally, Trump has responded by choosing to lie about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed that the protests were \u201cpaid for by Soros and other radical left lunatics\u201d and that the demonstrations were \u201cvery small, very ineffective, and the people who went were whacked out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWhat do you mean they were \u2018whacked out\u2019?\u201d Meyers asked. \u201cMost of the protesters that I saw were grandmas playing banjos, inflatable frogs \u2013 you sound like a Staten Island dad explaining why Uncle Gino can\u2019t make it to Christmas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cTrump is desperate to pretend that his popularity makes him invincible, but the No Kings protests prove the opposite is true,\u201d he added. \u201cHe\u2019s stirred an unprecedented level of protest and discontent, and now he\u2019s threatening to respond by using the military.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Specifically, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, an 1807 measure that allows the president to deploy troops nationally and federalize the national guard in case of emergencies. In Trump\u2019s view, the law, as he told, Fox News, provided him \u201cunquestioned power\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Meyers said: \u201cI like how his response to the No Kings rally is a reminder as to why it was a good idea to have a No Kings rally \u2013 \u2018I\u2019m not king, and I shall prove it with my unquestioned power.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"stephen-colbert\" class=\"dcr-n4qeq9\"><strong>Stephen Colbert<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">And on the Late Show, Stephen Colbert touched on Trump\u2019s other response to the No Kings protest: On Saturday, he posted an AI video of himself wearing a crown while flying a jet and spraying New York City protesters with feces.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThis video that he\u2019s posting might be upsetting to sensitive viewers who do not like watching the president of the United States carpet-pooping his own citizens,\u201d Colbert warned before playing the clip. \u201cThere it is! King Trump crapping on America. Which is insane, though I will grant: factually accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Colbert took a second to thank CBS for letting him air the clip, as \u201csome networks are not showing that video because it\u2019s so disturbing,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s rational reasons to not show that video. But I think we\u2019re way beyond rationality at this point. So, thank you, CBS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Colbert elaborated on a number of disturbing elements within the video: \u201cNumber one, the number two. Second, eat a vegetable, baby! Throw a handful of flaxseeds in your milkshake \u2013 you\u2019ve got a real problem!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He then turned serious: \u201cThis video was vile and violent and only proves the point of the No Kings march even more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWhat decent democratic leader would ever post a video of themselves shitting on peaceful protesters?\u201d he added. \u201cHe is a one-man hate march.
