\n\tAdam Driver and Steven Soderbergh almost brought their own twist to a galaxy far, far away.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn a recent sit down with AP, Driver said that over the span of two years, he and Soderbergh developed a script called \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo.\u201d The film would have taken place after the events of \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker,\u201d and followed Driver\u2019s Kylo Ren, aka Ben Solo, on a search for redemption.<\/p>\n
\n\tSoderbergh roughed out the story with \u201cLogan Lucky\u201d screenwriter Rebecca Blunt. Scott Z. Burns later joined to pen the script.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI always was interested in doing another \u2018Star Wars,\u2019\u201d Driver said. \u201cI had been talking about doing another one since 2021. Kathleen [Kennedy] had reached out. I always said: \u2018With a great director and a great story, I\u2019d be there in a second.\u2019 I loved that character and loved playing him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDriver described the film as \u201chandmade and character-driven,\u201d comparing it to 1980\u2019s \u201cThe Empire Strikes Back.\u201d The \u201cWhite Noise\u201d star said that that film is the \u201cstandard\u201d of what a \u201cStar Wars\u201d movie should be.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tSoderbergh and Driver pitched \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d to Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Cary Beck at Lucasfilm, who \u201cloved the idea.\u201d However, when they took the script over to Disney, they were shut down.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea,\u201d Driver recalled. \u201cThey totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no. They didn\u2019t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tLucasfilm declined to comment.<\/p>\n
\n\tSoderbergh told AP of the experience, \u201cI really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I\u2019m just sorry the fans won\u2019t get to see it.\u201d Driver agreed, calling the project \u201cone of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tDriver debuted as Kylo Ren in 2015\u2019s \u201cThe Force Awakens,\u201d and reprised the role in 2017\u2019s \u201cThe Last Jedi\u201d and 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker.\u201d<\/p>\n
