\n\tRobert De Niro, noted critic of Donald Trump, praised the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests over the weekend, saying it\u2019s important people \u201cdon\u2019t let up\u201d because the president \u201cdoes not want to leave the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe actor appeared on MSNBC\u2019s The Weekend<\/em> on Sunday and took the opportunity to speak out against Trump attempting to remain in office for a third term, as well as how Americans are standing up against him. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe original No Kings protest was 250 years ago,\u201d De Niro noted, referring to the American Revolution, which began in 1775. \u201cAmericans decided they didn\u2019t want to live under the rule of King George III. They declared their independence and fought a bloody war for democracy. We\u2019ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then. Often challenging, sometimes messy, always essential, and we fought in two World Wars to preserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe added, \u201cNow we have a would-be king who wants to take it away? King Donald I. Fuck that. We are rising up again this time. Nonviolently raising our voices to declare \u2018No Kings.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \n\tDe Niro said he was \u201cvery happy\u201d to see an estimated seven million Americans turning out for the \u201cNo Kings\u201d marches. \u201cWe need much more of it going forward, because that\u2019s the only thing that the politicians are going to recognize, either face the wrath of Trump or the wrath of the people,\u201d the actor said. \u201cAnd they have to be more afraid of the wrath of the people and realize this is not good. The day marked the second iteration of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests, following a massive effort on June 14. Several celebrities voiced their support for the protests, including John Cusack, who marched in Chicago. \u201cNo, you can\u2019t put troops on our streets,\u201d Cusack said to Trump, speaking on CNN. \u201cYou can\u2019t create enough chaos to invoke the Insurrection Act so you can stay in power.
