The main competition for the 29th edition of the festival includes\u00a017 feature films, with\u00a016 world premieres\u00a0and\u00a0one international premiere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThis year\u2019s selection follows an impressive number of submissions: 1,900 for the main program, 433 for Just Film, and over 5,600 for Shorts,\u201d the fest said. \u201cFilms were submitted from more than\u00a0100 countries, with around\u00a080 nations represented\u00a0in the festival\u2019s final program.\u201d Overall, the program will showcase\u00a0110 world premieres\u00a0and\u00a030 international premieres.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tFestival director and head curator\u00a0Tiina Lokk\u00a0described this year\u2019s competition as a reflection of the world\u2019s anxieties and resilience, saying: \u201cIt\u2019s difficult to pinpoint a single common thread this year, but once again, the selection holds up a mirror to our world. Everything that worries and pains us is there \u2014 wars, the environmental crisis, political arrogance, migration, women\u2019s rights, and, above all, the fragile ties of family life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe noted strong submissions from\u00a0Asia, Latin America,\u00a0and\u00a0Spain, the only country with two films in the competition. \u201cWith Catalan Films in Focus, we were pleased to include emerging Catalan female talent J\u00falia de Paz Solvas with <em>The Good Daughter<\/em>, as well as <em>The Dashed Lines<\/em> \u2014 a warm and unexpected story about divorce by Galician director Anxos Faz\u00e0ns,\u201d Lokk said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe jury is chaired by Macedonian filmmaker\u00a0Teona Strugar Mitevska (Mother; <em>God Exists<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Her Name Is Petrunya<\/em>;\u00a0<em>The Happiest Man in the World<\/em>).
