Democrats are continuing to use their leverage in the federal-funding process to confront Republicans. Meanwhile, the threat of layoffs looms for many government workers. Panelists on Washington Week With The Atlantic<\/em> joined last night to discuss how long the government shutdown could last and more.<\/p>\n This shutdown is not necessarily something that Donald Trump would have chosen, \u201cbut he likes a fight,\u201d Ashley Parker, a staff writer for The Atlantic<\/em>, said last night. \u201cHe thinks\u2014publicly, gleefully\u2014that it benefits him and Republicans politically.\u201d That, however, \u201cstill remains to be seen,\u201d Parker argued.<\/p>\n The president is also using the shutdown as an \u201copportunity for the deconstruction of the administrative state,\u201d Parker continued.
