It\u2019s the result of a disagreement over healthcare, with Democrats trying to push for benefits to be reinstated for many Americans under the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n
Republicans \u201ccontrol all three branches of government, but somehow none of this is their fault\u201d and Colbert said Trump was using it to \u201cpunish anyone who didn\u2019t vote for him\u201d.<\/p>\n
Federal funds have been cut in states that voted for Kamala Harris, including in New York, with cuts to the city\u2019s mass transit system. \u201cYou think you can scare New Yorkers?\u201d<\/p>\n
There have been no cuts to a state that backed Trump in 2024, leading Colbert to joke that the \u201cRonald Reagan oil field and memorial whorehouse\u201d is safe.<\/p>\n
The right have claimed, incorrectly, that the Democrats want to allow undocumented immigrants healthcare benefits, which has led Trump to share a number of AI-generated racist memes. \u201cThis is now our level of political discourse,\u201d Colbert said, referring to it as \u201cinfantile bigotry\u201d.<\/p>\n
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which is in Brooklyn for the week, the host also spoke about the shutdown and how the right are trying to force about 15 million people off their insurance.<\/p>\n
Trump is trying to \u201cdo as much damage as he can\u201d during the shutdown, and also the Magasphere is \u201cvery fired up\u201d over the announcement of Bad Bunny as next year\u2019s Super Bowl half-time performer.<\/p>\n
Kimmel said that \u201cone of Trump\u2019s top hench-weasels\u201d, Corey Lewandowski, has claimed they are planning to have Ice agents present.<\/p>\n

On Late Night, Seth Meyers brought up the right\u2019s hypocrisy over the shutdown, showing clips of Mike Johnson complaining that the shutdown will mean Fema [the Federal Emergency Management Agency] will lose funding, leaving many Americans vulnerable to catastrophic weather events.<\/p>\n
Yet Trump has frequently spoken about his desire to dismantle Fema, calling it \u201cfrankly, not good\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWait until Mike Johnson hears about this,\u201d Meyers joked.<\/p>\n
He claimed that Johnson is there to \u201claunder Trump\u2019s insanity\u201d before saying \u201cthey want to have it both ways\u201d.<\/p>\n
