Prison will change you or kill you \u2013 I choose to live,\u201d Combs, 55, wrote in a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI no longer care about the money or the fame,\u201d he added. \u201cThere is nothing more important to me than my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Rather than make an example out of him with a lengthy sentence, Combs implored Subramanian to \u201cmake me an example of what a person can do if afforded a second chance\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Combs wrote that, now sober, and with his mind clear of drugs and alcohol after a year in jail, he can see how rotten he had become before his September 2024 arrest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI lost my way. I got lost in my journey. Lost in the drugs and the excess. My downfall was rooted in my selfishness,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He described \u201cthe remorse, the sorrow, the regret, the disappointment, the shame\u201d from his behavior that has made it \u201cso hard for me to forgive myself\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Combs apologized to Casandra \u201cCassie\u201d Ventura, a former girlfriend he had hit, kicked and dragged at a Los Angeles hotel in 2016 \u2013 an attack captured on security-camera footage shown to jurors repeatedly during his two-month trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe scene and images of me assaulting Cassie play over and over in my head daily,\u201d Combs wrote. \u201cI literally lost my mind. I was dead wrong for putting my hands on the woman that I loved. A former personal assistant testified that Combs raped her. One of Cassie\u2019s friends told the jury Combs dangled her from a 17th floor balcony.
