\n\tJimmy Fallon does not want to be Donald Trump\u2018s next late-night target. The host took an opportunity yesterday to affirm that The Tonight Show<\/em> is not very political, a clear effort to dodge Trump\u2019s wrath. <\/p>\n \n\tFallon appeared on CNBC\u2019s \u201cSquawk on the Street\u201d on Tuesday to discuss his new unscripted series On Brand<\/em>, and was asked by host Carl Quintanilla\u00a0if he\u2019s thinking about what he can put in a monologue and what it\u2019s like being on an FCC-licensed \u201cavenue of broadcasting.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOur show has never really been that political. We hit both sides equally, and we try to make everybody laugh, and that\u2019s really the way our show really works,\u201d Fallon said. \u201cOur monologues are kind of the same that we\u2019ve been doing since Johnny Carson was doing The\u00a0Tonight Show<\/em>. So really, I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe added, \u201cI have great writers, clever, smart writers. And we\u2019re just trying to make the best show we possibly can and entertain everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n \n\tFallon has famously played both sides on The Tonight Show<\/em>, taking digs at both Trump and former president Joe Biden. In 2016, Fallon invited Trump to appear on the late-night show. The appearance featured a bit where Fallon was allowed to mess up Trump\u2019s hair, a moment that went viral and drew harsh criticism for attempting to humanize him too much. <\/p>\n \n\tFallon discussed the backlash in a lengthy New York Times\u00a0<\/em>interview the following year, saying he wanted to simply \u201chave fun\u201d with a guest. \u201cI didn\u2019t do it to humanize him,\u201d he said. \u201cI almost did it to minimize him. I didn\u2019t think that would be a compliment: \u2018He did the thing that we all wanted to do.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n \n\tAfter the brouhaha, Fallon took an Internet break to avoid the nasty feedback. But even if the criticism \u201cdevastated\u201d him, he remains confident in his show\u2019s style: \u201cI don\u2019t want to be bullied into not being me, and not doing what I think is funny,\u201d he said. \u201cJust because some people bash me on Twitter, it\u2019s not going to change my humor or my show.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFallon did voice his support for Jimmy Kimmel after Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/em> was suspended, but he has avoided taking any real digs at Trump or the FCC. \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s going on,\u201d Fallon noted during his monologue on The Tonight Show<\/em> after Kimmel was pulled from ABC. \u201cAnd no one does.
