Jessica Chastain-led series The Savant has been pulled from the Apple TV+ release schedule.<\/p>\n
The thriller was set to begin on 26 September but its release has been postponed.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,\u201d a spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cWe appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.\u201d<\/p>\n
The show follows Chastain\u2019s character infiltrating online hate groups in order to stop violence being committed in the US. It was loosely inspired by a 2019 Cosompolitan article that describes an investigator known as the Savant as \u201can elite investigator who tracks angry men online\u201d.<\/p>\n
In the trailer, her character warns: \u201cSnipers, bombings, ambushes, we\u2019re on the verge of serious violence.\u201d She adds: \u201cThis guy isn\u2019t just planning violence, he\u2019s out to make a statement \u2026 innocent Americans are going to die\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI hate that this show is relevant,\u201d Chastain said in an interview with the Radio Times. \u201cI hate it. I hate that there are mass acts of violence. But maybe through this conversation and through unearthing this darkness in society, then we\u2019re gonna work together to fix it.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Apple did not elaborate on the decision, it comes soon after the killing of rightwing commentator Charlie Kirk at at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with the crime with text messages appearing to show the act was motivated by wanting to stop Kirk\u2019s \u201chatred\u201d.<\/p>\n
While reviews are embargoed, the Irish Independent\u2019s Pat Stacey called The Savant \u201ca thriller depicting the ugliness of white supremacist extremism in the United States\u201d. The trailer also features threats of \u201ca coordinated mass attack\u201d and words on-screen mention that between 1994 and 2020, there were 893 extremist attacks in America.<\/p>\n
The Oscar-winning actor, who was named best actress for her role in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, called its timeliness \u201cupsetting\u201d in an interview with Emmy magazine before referring to \u201cwhat just happened in Minnesota\u201d, signalling toward the killing of Melissa Hortman.
