\n\tHoward Stern announced on Monday\u2019s episode of his SiriusXM radio show that he is canceling his Disney+ subscription after ABC suspended \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d Disney is the network\u2019s parent company. Stern joins a growing list of celebrities who have made their Disney+ cancellations public in the days since Kimmel was taken off air, from Cynthia Nixon to Noah Centineo.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cAs you know, ABC threw Jimmy [Kimmel] off the air,\u201d Stern said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what their plan is, but it looks like they might be firing him. And then I read sometimes that they\u2019re not gonna fire him. I don\u2019t know. I have spoken to Jimmy. I didn\u2019t ask him these questions, I just asked him how he was doing personally. I just know when the government begins to interfere, when the government says, \u2018I\u2019m not pleased with you, so we\u2019re gonna orchestrate a way to silence you,\u2019 it\u2019s the wrong direction for our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI should know. I\u2019ve been involved in something like this, and now ABC is put in the same position and it\u2019s unfortunate that ABC even has to be in this position,\u201d Stern continued. \u201cThey shouldn\u2019t have to be in this position. I feel for them too, in this. But someone\u2019s gotta step up and fucking say, \u2018Hey, enough, we\u2019re not gonna bow.\u2019 Now it might sound stupid, but the thing I did this morning, I\u2019m canceling my Disney+. I\u2019m trying to say with the pocketbook that I do not support what they\u2019re doing with Jimmy.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tStern is one of several high-profile entertainments hosts who have condemned ABC and Disney for yanking Kimmel off the air. Stephen Colbert called the decision \u201cblatant censorship\u201d to appease Donald Trump, while Jimmy Fallon expressed his desire for Kimmel to return to air and vowed never to stop making Trump jokes even if there are fears it will get \u201cThe Tonight Show\u201d censored.<\/p>\n
\n\tSimilar to Stern, John Oliver also said that Disney should not have bowed down to the FCC or the Trump administration. Oliver added: \u201cIf we\u2019ve learned nothing else from this administration\u2019s second term so far, and I don\u2019t think we have, is that giving the bully your lunch money doesn\u2019t make him go away. It just makes him come back hungrier each time\u2026 Look, at some point you\u2019re going to have to draw a line. So I\u2019d argue, why not draw it right here? And when they come to you with stupid ridiculous demands, picking fights that you know you could win in court instead of rolling over, why not stand up and use four key words they don\u2019t tend to teach you in business school. Not \u2018OK, you\u2019re the boss.\u2019 Not \u2018Whatever you say goes.\u2019 But instead, the only phrase that can genuinely make a weak bully go away. And that is, \u2018Fuck you, make me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
