\n\tABC News Studios has canceled the red carpet at Sunday\u2019s Los Angeles premiere of its documentary \u201cLilith Fair: Building a Mystery \u2013 The Untold Story.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cPlease note this event will no longer be hosting a red carpet,\u201d reads an email sent to members of the press early Saturday night. \u201cWe appreciate your willingness to attend and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tNo reason was given for the abrupt change, but the scaled back plans come amid the controversy surrounding Disney\u2019s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel amid threats from the FCC and a campaign against the host fueled by right-wing media.<\/p>\n
\n\tNixing the \u201cLilith Fair\u201d red carpet came just 24 hours after confirmation emails had been sent to reporters and photographers to cover the event, which would have included Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and M\u00fda walking the carpet as well as director Ally Pankiw.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe premiere screening and surprise performances are still set to take place at the Ford in Hollywood at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe host has made no public comment since \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d was pulled from its regular 11:35 p.m. slot on Sept. 17, with Disney saying only that the program would be off of its schedule \u201cindefinitely\u201d after one of the biggest owners of TV stations in the U.S.,\u00a0Nexstar, said it intended to pre-empt airings of the program following remarks the host made in relation to Trump and the slaying of conservative activist\u00a0Charlie Kirk. Sinclair, another large station owner, said it too was taking Kimmel off of its stations.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\n\tABC News Studios released \u201cLilith Fair\u201d on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the U.S. and Disney+ Internationally on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\n\tBacklash in the creative community to Kimmel\u2019s suspension has been growing. Celebrities and politicians have been sounding off publicly. Most recently, Marvel star Mark Ruffalo re-shared a report on Threads that claims Disney\u2019s stock dropped 7% after ABC pre-empted \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d and wrote, \u201cIt\u2019s going to go down a lot further if they cancel his show. Disney does not want to be the ones that broke America.\u201d (The drop was actually actually 1% on Thursday and 0.95% on Friday.)<\/p>\n
\n\tFellow MCU-er Kathryn Hahn also weighed in on Sept. 20. The \u201cAgatha All Along\u201d star posted a story on Instagram showing her hosting and as a guest on \u201cJimmy Kimmel.\u201d Along with a throwing up emoji, she wrote, \u201c#freespeech #jimmykimmellive.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tSocial media has also been flooded with Hulu and Disney+ users posting that they\u2019ve canceled their subscriptions to the streaming services.<\/p>\n
\n\tFormer Disney CEO Michael Eisner also took the company to task.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWhere has all the leadership gone?\u201d Eisner wrote Friday in a\u00a0post\u00a0on X. \u201cIf not for university presidents, law firm managing partners, and corporate chief executives standing up against bullies, who then will step up for the first amendment?\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tEisner continued, \u201cThe \u2018suspending indefinitely\u2019 of Jimmy Kimmel immediately after the Chairman of the FCC\u2019s aggressive yet hollow threatening of the Disney Company is yet another example of out-of-control intimidation. Maybe the Constitution should have said, \u2018Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, except in one\u2019s political or financial self-interest.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tKimmel\u2019s fellow late-night hosts Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon have voiced their support during their show\u2019s opening monologues.<\/p>\n
\n\tPresident Donald Trump is unwavering in his backing of FCC chairman Brendan Carr.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWhen you have a network and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit Trump,\u201d Trump said on Sept. 18. \u201cThey\u2019re licensed. They\u2019re not allowed to do that. They\u2019re an arm of the Democrat Party.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tSpeaking to reporters on Air Force One, the president also complained that 97% of broadcast news coverage is \u201cagainst me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThey give me only bad press,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re getting a license. I think maybe their license should be taken away. It will be up to Brendan Carr. I think Brendan Carr is outstanding. He\u2019s a patriot. He loves our country, and he\u2019s a tough guy. So we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe \u201cLilith Fair\u201d doc was commissioned by CBC and produced by Dan Levy\u2019s Not A Real Production Company and Elevation Pictures for ABC News Studios, and presented by White Horse Pictures in association with Epic Magazine.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn his review of the doc, Variety<\/em>\u2018s Chris Willman wrote that it \u201coffers an absorbing look back at why the Sarah McLachlan-led, female-fronted festivals of the 1990s felt revolutionary.\u201d<\/p>\n
