\n\tJames was one of three people on board a Cirrus SR22T aircraft that crashed near Franklin, North Carolina, on Thursday in an incident that the National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame announced James\u2019 death, writing in a Facebook post on Friday, \u201cWe mourn the untimely loss of Hall of Fame member Brett James (\u201cJesus Take The Wheel\u201d \/ \u201cWhen The Sun Goes Down\u201d), a 2020 inductee who was killed in a small-engine airplane crash on Sept. 18. He was 57.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tJames wrote or co-wrote some of country music\u2019s biggest hit songs, including Carrie Underwood\u2019s \u201cJesus Take the Wheel\u201d and Kenny Chesney\u2019s \u201cWhen the Sun Goes Down.\u201d <\/p>\n
\n\tThe music industry was quick to mourn James on social media, with performing rights organization ASCAP writing in a tribute post, \u201cWe\u2019re mourning the loss of Brett James \u2026 a 2-time ASCAP Country Songwriter of the Year. Brett was a trusted collaborator to country\u2019s greatest names and a true advocate for songwriters. We miss him dearly.\u201d<\/p>\n
