\n\t\u201cMaya,\u201d Channel 4\u2019s upcoming witness protection thriller series starring Bella Ramsey and Daisy Haggard, has started shooting in Scotland, with a host of names joining the cast. <\/p>\n
\n\tWritten and created by BAFTA and International Emmy nominee Haggard (\u201cBack To Life,\u201d \u201cBreeders\u201d), who will also make her directorial debut, co-directing the series from Two Brothers Pictures (\u201cThe Tourist,\u201d \u201cFleabag,\u201d \u201cBoat Story\u201d) alongside Jamie Donoughue (\u201cDoctor Who,\u201d \u201cThe Last Kingdom\u201d).<\/p>\n
\n\tIn the six-part series Ramsey plays the titular, Maya, teenage daughter of Anna (Haggard). Forced into a witness protection programme to escape a life-threatening danger, Anna and Maya leave their London lives and parents, Nancy (Harriet Walter \u2013 \u201cSuccession\u201d, \u201cTed Lasso\u201d) and George (Tom Courtenay \u2013 \u201cQuartet,\u201d \u201c45 Years\u201d) behind, taking on new identities and relocating to a small rural town in Scotland. Aided by Senior Detective Constable Debs (Josie Walker \u2013 \u201cKneecap,\u201d \u201cAndor\u201d) and witness protection officers Tony (Stuart Bowman \u2013 \u201cDept. Q,\u201d \u201cRebus\u201d) and Karen (Kiran Sonia Sawar \u2013 \u201cSlow Horses,\u201d \u201cTrue Love\u201d) they try to adjust to their new reality, but the trauma of their past continues to haunt them in the form of two hitmen, Benji (Ben Chaplin \u2013 \u201cSeptember 5,\u201d \u201cThe Dig\u201d) and Ted (Raphel Famotibe \u2013 \u201cThe Night Manager S2,\u201d \u201cWale\u201d) who are intent on tracking them down. As the walls close in, it becomes clear that a dangerous and calculating figure from their past, the seemingly charming Bobby (Tobias Menzies \u2013 \u201cF1,\u201d \u201cThe Crown\u201d), is still a looming and very present threat.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMaya\u201d is billed as \u201cdarkly comedic,\u201d and am \u201catmospheric psychological thriller that explores themes of predatory male behaviour, family and love, but, above all, is a warm and witty celebration of the special, unbreakable bond shared between mother and daughter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kenny Tanner is Producer, Donoughue will co-direct and serve as co-executive Producer and Shaheen Baig is casting director. The commissioning editor for Channel 4 is Boswell.
