\n\tThe Penguin<\/em> star Cristin Milioti won the 2025 Emmy for lead actress in a limited series on Sunday, and she reflected on playing the role of Sofia Gigante in her acceptance speech.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThank you so much. I\u2019m so profoundly grateful,\u201d she began, sharing that she wrote her speech on the back of a piece a paper from a recent therapy session. \u201cI loved making this show and I loved playing Sofia so much.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe award marks Milioti\u2019s first Emmys win, as well as her first nomination. She beat out Disclaimer<\/em>\u2018s Cate Blanchett, Sirens<\/em>\u2018 Meghann Fahy, Black Mirror<\/em>\u2018s Rashida Jones and Dying for Sex<\/em>\u2018s Michelle Williams for the honor.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world and so I\u2019m deeply grateful for the bright spots,\u201d she continued from the awards show stage. \u201cAnd making this show with our incredible cast and our incredible crew and getting to inhabit this woman was a bright spot for me despite it being, like, very grizzly. Playing her felt like flying.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAfter she thanked her \u201cincredible family\u201d in attendance for supporting their \u201cstrange kid\u201d and showing her \u201cmovies that were very inappropriate for my age,\u201d Milioti thanked her friends. \u201cI have the best friends in the world. You\u2019re the reason that I\u2019m standing. You\u2019re the whole reason that I\u2019ve gotten through life,\u201d she said through tears.<\/p>\n \n\tMilioti began to wrap up her speech by thanking The Penguin<\/em> showrunner Lauren LeFranc. \u201cShe is the reason our show is so special,\u201d she said. Milioti then thanked her team and several of the people behind the scenes of the show.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI love you and I love acting so much!\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n \n\tAfter her nomination was announced, Milioti reflected on the nod during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cI feel really good, it\u2019s so nice. I feel so thrilled for our show,\u201d she said in August. \u201cYou never know how these things are going to go, and I\u2019m so blown away by the amount of nominations we have and that so many members of our incredible crew got nominated.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe Penguin<\/em> snagged a total of 24 nominations across a wide variety of creative categories at the awards show. Her other series, Black Mirror<\/em>, was also nominated.<\/p>\n \n\tThe 2025 Emmy Awards are hosted by Nate Bargatze and are being held at the Peacock Theater at L.A.
