\n\tBill Maher addressed Charlie Kirk\u2019s assassination during Friday night\u2019s episode of Real Time<\/em>, where he started the episode off by noting that it had been a \u201cvery ugly week in America.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\tDuring his opening monologue, Maher touched on the current state of politics in the United States in the wake of the shooting. He began, \u201cIt\u2019s a very ugly week in America with violence of all kinds: political violence, regular violence, a lot of people talking about a civil war.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAnd then today in Congress, because Charlie Kirk got assassinated, [Colorado Representative] Lauren Boebert stood up and said, \u2018We need to have a prayer.\u2019 So they started to have a silent prayer. And then she started screaming, \u2018No! Silent prayers get silent results.\u2019 As if praying out loud gets big results,\u201d Maher continued. \u201cThen the Democrats started screaming at her that there was a school shooting in her state. I tell you, so far, the civil war is not very civil.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tConservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed Wednesday on the campus of Utah Valley University after an\u00a0assassin\u2019s bullet struck his neck while he was hosting a student\u2019s event. He was discussing mass shootings in the U.S. when he was struck. On Friday, Tyler Robinson was identified as the suspect in the assassination and was brought into custody.<\/p>\n \n\tMaher went on to address President Donald Trump\u2019s answer to a question he was asked on Fox & Friends<\/em> about how to \u201cfix this country\u201d and \u201ccome back together\u201d\u00a0in the wake of a major political divide. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cToday, they asked the President, \u2018What are you going to do to bring the country together?\u2019\u201d he recited. \u201cAnd he said, \u2018I know this is going to get me in trouble, but I could care less.\u2019 He\u2019s a different kind of cat. His message is, \u2018Let the healing stop.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLater in the episode, Maher sat down with Ben Shapiro and and Tim Alberta, where they spoke about Kirk\u2019s death in length. There, the Real Time<\/em> host condemned \u201cthe people who mocked his death or justified it.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI like everybody, I talk to everybody, I\u2019m glad I took that approach. But he was shot under a banner that said, \u2018Prove me wrong,\u2019 because he was a debater, and too many people think that the way to do that \u2014 to prove you wrong \u2014\u00a0is to just eliminate you from talking altogether,\u201d he said. \u201cSo the people who mocked his death or justified it, I think you\u2019re gross. I have no use for you. The people who are saying now we\u2019re at war, I\u2019ve no use for you.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tHe further addressed the widespread reaction Kirk\u2019s assassination sparked on social media. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThe governor of the state said, \u2018Social media is a cancer,\u2019 which I think is true because when you read some of the comments from people, they really are in such a bubble that they don\u2019t understand that it\u2019s happening on both sides,\u201d Maher added. \u201cAnd I think the only way this starts to get better is if both sides admit, \u2018OK, let\u2019s not have this debate about who started it. Let\u2019s not debate about who\u2019s worse because, plainly, both sides do it now.\u2019 And the right has done it too. A lot.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFollowing Kirk\u2019s death, Hollywood and political figures took to social media to share their\u00a0reactions and tributes\u00a0to the late MAGA activist. President Donald Trump announced his death on Truth Social, writing, \u201cNo one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tLate night host Jimmy Kimmel took to Instagram, where he wrote, \u201cInstead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?
