Political violence only leads to more political violence. And I pray with all my heart that this is the aberrant action of a madman, and not a sign of things to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The show then cut to the monologue staff had prepared before the Kirk news; a more chipper Colbert braced for headlines \u201cthat will be used in a future documentary\u201d. For example, the very real headline \u201cPoland accuses Russia of invading its airspace\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">As Poland is in Nato, a potential attack against one nation would be considered an attack against all. \u201cBasically, Nato has the same rules as a bachelorette party at Medieval Times,\u201d said Colbert. \u201c\u2018You come for Shayna, you come for all of us, OK? It\u2019s her special day, and you do not want to see what I will do to you with this turkey leg.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Nato fighter jets shot down the Russian drones as soon as they entered Nato airspace, leading the Polish prime minister to remark: \u201cThis situation brings us the closest we have been to open conflict since world war two.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cOh no, we\u2019re going to have to save Private Ryan again,\u201d Colbert quipped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThankfully, with Europe on the brink of war, America has a statesman in office, who can reassure the world with a steady hand and calming words.\u201d On Wednesday, Trump posted on Truth Social: \u201cWhat\u2019s with Russia violating Poland\u2019s airspace with drones? Here we go!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI can\u2019t believe Russia would dare take an aggressive action like this after Trump laid down a clear red line. I\u2019m sorry, I meant to say \u2018plush red carpet\u2019,\u201d Colbert joked before footage of Trump warmly greeting the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"seth-meyers\" class=\"dcr-n4qeq9\"><strong>Seth Meyers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Late Night, Seth Meyers continued to track the Republican response to Trump\u2019s alleged birthday letter to Jeffrey Epstein in 2003, which was released publicly by the House oversight committee this week. \u201cFor years, the conspiracy theories insisted that there was a cover-up to hide the name of powerful elites with ties to Jeffrey Epstein,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd it turns out they were right, just not in the way they wanted it to be.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIn their fever swamp brains, they thought it was only going to hurt their political enemies, but now it\u2019s hurting their hero Donald Trump,\u201d he added. \u201cWhich is why they\u2019re doing all sorts of mental gymnastics to claim it couldn\u2019t possibly be Trump\u2019s signature in that book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">As the speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, said of Trump: \u201cHe\u2019s never drawn such a picture. He\u2019s never thought of drawing such a picture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cI\u2019ve never known him to be much of an artist, either,\u201d said Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee, who also questioned the timing of the letter\u2019s release. \u201cThey bring something out like this now \u2026 Why wouldn\u2019t they bring it out during the campaign?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Meyers pointed out that the lewd letter was not provided by Democrats, but by the Epstein estate. \u201cYou think if Democrats were in possession of a birthday card from Donald Trump to the world\u2019s most notorious sex trafficker, they would have just sat on it until after they lost?\u201d he said. \u201cAnd yes, as I say it out loud, it does seem like a fuck-up the Democrats would make.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Regardless, Meyers had only contempt for Republicans over Epstein. \u201cYou can\u2019t have it both ways,\u201d he concluded. \u201cYou can\u2019t spend years insisting that the names of powerful elites are all implicated in the Epstein files, and it\u2019s all real except for anything with Donald Trump\u2019s name on it, which is fake.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"jimmy-kimmel\" class=\"dcr-n4qeq9\"><strong>Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">And in Los Angeles, Jimmy Kimmel recapped Trump\u2019s big night at a seafood restaurant he did not own in Washington DC, to make a point about deploying the national guard in the city. \u201cIt was a big night for Trump. This is the first meal he\u2019s had in like five years that didn\u2019t have the words \u2018extra value\u2019 in front of it,\u201d Kimmel joked.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cImagine he sends in the national guard, there are hundreds of troops on the street, and somehow they let a 34-time convicted felon just waltz into a restaurant, no questions asked at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThese poor national guardsmen and women,\u201d he continued. \u201cA lot of them have to leave their families and jobs to stand on the corner now watching the Ubers pass by, which is not what they signed up for. They\u2019re supposed to be called for emergencies and disasters and wars. Instead, they\u2019re clearing a path for President Crab Cakes to pig out with his buddies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">While out, Trump was asked about a sexually suggestive doodle for Jeffrey Epstein. He once again denied writing the letter which apparently has his signature in 2003. \u201cAnyone that\u2019s covered me for a long time knows that\u2019s not my language. That\u2019s nonsense,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThat\u2019s right, his language is nonsense,\u201d Kimmel laughed. \u201cListen, I have no idea what Trump did or didn\u2019t do. All I know is that he really doesn\u2019t want us to see those Epstein files.
